Kelly’s Jbay Quiver
We just sent three new boards down to South Africa as Kelly prepares for the Billabong Pro at Jefferies Bay. Kelly’s at it again? J Bay Quiver Experimentation. What do you think? Leave a comment here. And yes, in case you were wondering, that is the nose. Check out more photos.
The next question is, what do you call it? The Shrimp Fork? The Pickle Fork? Mangent? The Missing Puzzle Piece? You tell us.

07 Jul 09 at 6:02 pm #Where is the fin placements ? Concave lift for more response off the face of the wave, continuous rocker displacement through out the planing surface ?
07 Jul 09 at 7:57 pm #its a finless foam alai shape
07 Jul 09 at 9:57 pm #That sure is a funky nose!
Guys at CI keep on developing crazy stuff. I really look forward to read the test results by Kelly in Sth. Africa.
Good luck to Kelly at J-Bay but also to Bobby! (big fan here).
07 Jul 09 at 10:05 pm #I do believe he’s able to win only with his work horse … he didn’t got any good result in the first three contests
08 Jul 09 at 5:13 am #eeewwwwww !!! Are you guys inspired by wakeboards ??
08 Jul 09 at 8:49 am #It looks a bit weird, but as usual, if Jimmy Slade rides it to victory, that ll be a new revolution !!!
GO FOR IT K10 !!!!!!!!!!!!
The Divot tool, who’s dog is that?
08 Jul 09 at 10:09 am #Thats not a dog thats kelly he is a shape shifter, havent you seen True blood?

09 Jul 09 at 2:58 am #call it neptun
09 Jul 09 at 7:45 am #Stop wasting Al’s Foam/ Money and stick with your Tangent! Is the only board that works.
09 Jul 09 at 8:32 am #“The next question is, what do you call it?”
A Gemini:
09 Jul 09 at 8:41 am #http://www.alexandersurfboards.com/gemini_jef.html
pierrezamronnie says name the stick “the gizzard sleeve”
09 Jul 09 at 1:43 pm #call it ” the boot jack “
09 Jul 09 at 2:15 pm #Alexander surfboards Gemini anyone?
09 Jul 09 at 2:53 pm #i think the tangent is obviously a rip off of a rusty, rusty made boards with one nose forever, and three fins, o wait maybe its a simon ripoff
09 Jul 09 at 4:27 pm #I would cal it all Cut up It kinda looks like a Razor blades profile…Call it a razor nose.
09 Jul 09 at 6:29 pm #is it gonna be a 3 fin or 4 fin or twin i doubt twin but could work in small waves as a twin
09 Jul 09 at 7:31 pm #The boards had FCS plugs so that it could be ridden as either a quad or the standard thruster set up. We’ll soon find out what option will work the best at JBay.
09 Jul 09 at 9:07 pm #Beans and franks. Beans and franks.
10 Jul 09 at 12:07 am #I heard Kelly change to Futures because FCS takes to much flex out of the tail?
10 Jul 09 at 12:08 am #IT/S CALLED THE MOONBEAM
10 Jul 09 at 11:42 am #Amazing!!! I`d like so much to know about the measures (nose, tail etc…)! Is it possible?
10 Jul 09 at 2:44 pm #uh duh most surfboards have pointed noses and they are different in outlines and contours from many companies, Your Gemini may have a similar nose ( a pointy two version vs a soft manta ray version), i hate to say it but its the contours and outline which will make it work not your bat man mask dual tips which prob dont even touch the water. But if kelly likes his Im sure you will sell more of your bat man -lemonade stand nose boards because it has a somewhat similiar nose and thus u will be rich all thanks to kelly, so dont be a hater just wait for your loot which abviously hasnt come since your board has been available since 1995 .
10 Jul 09 at 4:17 pm #ya I think thats cool of ci to even let that guy put his website on their blog, its not like they even sell those boards.
10 Jul 09 at 4:19 pm #Thats true I tried to get one of Kelly’s wizard sleeve boards custom made but they said since its Kelly’s design they said they had to wait for him to shape the master plug and him and Al to approve and sign off on everything. They do this before they release something to make sure it works and stands the test of time.
10 Jul 09 at 4:31 pm #…if this board has been inspired by mantaray cephalic lobes(the paddle-like organs at each corner of a Manta’s mouth, function like scoops to funnel plankton-bearing water into their mouths).its actually swims by flapping its pectoral fins up and down.
10 Jul 09 at 10:41 pm #….. Its hard for me to see the hydrodynamic significance of this design ….
ooh this guy has a good point , maybe he just likes mata rays and wants to lay on top of one , so he made his board like one?
10 Jul 09 at 11:04 pm #Can you say Gemini?….
11 Jul 09 at 8:37 pm #Can you say Jeff Alexander.
Can you dig it!!!!!!
Yes I Can.
Keep up the good work you guys. That includes you K.S.
God bless the open heart attached to the open mind.
P.S. K. S. I know you can say (10) Ten.
11 Jul 09 at 8:41 pm #is it just me or is the logo placement indicating that the twin lobes are the nose? Why would they put the logo on backwards? Hmmm.
13 Jul 09 at 2:07 am #they twin lobes are the nose, the manta lober
13 Jul 09 at 11:50 am #good styyf remind me of some boards a friend and I made many moons ago we called them BIRD BOARDS lots of lift and hydro fast one thing though you must be a good surfer or they don’t work at all Kelly knows the shaper RS I like what Kellys doing surfing is a calidescope all the colors need to be explored.I took one of Kellys ideas lately and had a local shaper bust out a board suited to me and East Coast conditions truth be told I actually can cutback again on our junk and wrap it around fells good for a 56 yr old so keep your open mind there more to surfing than thrusters try it all!!!!!!!
15 Jul 09 at 10:36 am #jeff alexander alexander alexaner gemini gemini jeff alexander patent# d410,515 u.s. kelly come late some beat you to the water.and your design is wrong some hints the nose is wrong the bottom should be inverted v through the tail dont set it up as a thruster does not work jeff already did that in 1995 or a quad the set up is a double thruster can you dig it.oh did you roll the rail did put the sk8 deck on it.you want this thing to work call jeff alexander these are parts of the board you missed.
17 Jul 09 at 8:35 pm #calling all patent attorneys need your help
17 Jul 09 at 8:36 pm #wheres kelly comment on this very new cutting edge board design.oh are you.
18 Jul 09 at 7:15 pm #you guys forgot the break between the nose try a v but backwards or tell ks to keep mouth closed on take off possible water in the mouth.just one more tip from a gemini rider.on this design kelly should be on 5.6. or 5.8.for to 10′ face.i think kelly might have some maurice cole influence.have fun dialing this manta ray in.just one email away from not doing r&d and wasting hours.
19 Jul 09 at 7:20 pm #If i were Kelley and Al I would be calling Jeff Alexander!!! This board is Sweet.
21 Jul 09 at 12:24 pm #Oh by the way good job Rich Pavel on a nice rocker on your new 5′10″ @ US
21 Jul 09 at 12:35 pm #please update your tufflite line cause fibre glass boards ..suck!!! a total waste of time and money.. they are great for pro”s who get them free, but they just don”t last!!
21 Jul 09 at 6:56 pm #[...] shape of a manta ray with his recent designs such as the Wizard Sleeve and the Tangent. How does this thing ride? I have no idea… and not even Surfer Mag knows! But I sure do really want to try it [...]
22 Jul 09 at 7:24 am #kelly is god on the seventh day he copied the gemini created by jeff alexander surfboards,.
23 Jul 09 at 8:28 pm #THE HAMMERHEAD
02 Sep 09 at 6:58 pm #How about the name “youbow” kinda a spin off of they kelly improv smooth style he is so well known for.

About time some one stepped it on designs that are faster and more stable down the faces. I am excited too see these on the market someday or do I have to custum it . Ahui ho Aloha
01 Feb 10 at 12:17 pm #Aloha, yes, faster and more stable. Terrific that Kelly keeps expanding the surfing experience; this design is not new though, as others have noted. The Gemini is super fun in small stuff, and even better in bigger surf. The negative posts about Jeff Alexander’s Gemini are really strange. How many of you have actually tried one? Jeff’s a craftsman and innovator, and the Gemini is versatile. I read a quote in Surfer Mag recently, from Al Merrick himself, where he said that most of the boards being made today, his included, often don’t match the abilities of the top surfers in the world. Maybe Kelly and Al could touch base with Jeff to take this design even further.
05 Feb 10 at 6:17 pm #Im not getting all gooey about this one but youd have to call it the Manta. On the other hand though, the nose on my head looks a bit funny and it works fine …Bob.
