Tanner Gudauskas Keeps ASP Dream Tour Hopes Alive at Reef Hawaiian Pro

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Sunday, November 22, 2009) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 6-Star PRIME Reef Hawaiian Pro saw up and coming American talent Tanner Gudauskas (San Clemente, CA), 21, keep his hopes for a spot on next year’s ASP World Tour alive when he advanced through to the Round of 32 behind ASP Dream Tour Title hopeful Joel Parkinson (Coolangatta, AUS), 28.

Gudauskas, who is currently sitting in the No. 17 position overall on the ASP WQS, attacked the six-to-eight (2 metre) surf on offer at Haleiwa at the second to last event of the 2009 season on the Grind. The pride of the west side, Nat Young, has once again walked away with a title from the competition at his home break of Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz. With his win in the Oakley Pro Junior on Sunday, Nat bagged a 3-peat in front of a massive crowd that had gathered to root on the local boy. Nat won the same event in 2007, and then in 2008, did the unthinkable by becoming the youngest-ever winner of the Cold Water Classic.

Tim Curran

Timmy Curran had a problem.
Almost everything in his life was great. He broke into the pro surfing tour at the age of 16, met the love of his life shortly after graduating high school, and was living the good life, travelling the world and basically having a blast. He was ranked as high as sixth in the world on the World Championship Tour and became a leading figure in surfing’s aerial revolution in the late 1990s. His full-on backflip was known worldwide simply as “The Flip.”
Everything was good except his songs. He came from a big Irish-American family that burst at the seams with music – family reunions and holidays were known as “Curran hootenannies” – and he’d carried a guitar with him everywhere since the age of 13. The problem was…well, he just wasn’t very good. He’d write songs and play them for family and friends, and by song’s end he’d wish he’d kept it to himself.
