    The first asymmetrical board I ever saw and got to ride was summer of 1969 Huntington Beach. Bob Carson had shaped this off center round tail on one side and square tail on the other. That one was all about the last 1/3 of the outline.

    The one that I really remember was Vinny Bryan on Kauai 1971. There was nothing on the board that was symmetrical.
    Rails, bottom, outline. But limited with only a single fin.
    That guy had some very interesting ideas.

    The process to finding something good and valid for me has always seemed to be going extreme then working back to a balance that works a bit more all around.

    Shaped myself a few over the years but never did the solid follow up
    work. Looking at this gets me excited about thinking and working on asymmetrical ideas again.

    Got to love what is going on here …… asymmetrical tail and fin set up. Is Kelly working on the other 2/3 becoming asymmetrical?

    Always thought we have been missing it with boards being so symmetrical. There is the fact of frontside and backside surfing be so different with weighting , heal, toe … stuff we all know. Then there is the whole different wave thing. Maybe for points you want your board to draw out long turns for the wall ahead but very short tight cutbacks
    etc… The possibilities are limitless.

    More pictures would be great.

    How did your fin placement come about? Is it best guess or have you tested digitally/small scale?
    Carl Ekstrom seemed to mock up small scale and i was just wondering what method you guys used.

    amazing… I have so many questions. I’m assuming this was crafted for Kelly to surf frontside? The fin placement is mind-boggling. I know Kelly is 100% on FCS but the thought of having an asymmetrical tail coupled with a finbox-type system where you could slide the fins forward/backward in small increments would be really intriguing. One of my boards is a bonzer with lokbox that allows me to do this and the subtle changes with 1″ changes in placement are pretty remarkable. awesome stuff – thanks for continuing to push the envelope in board design!

    I don’t care how it looks, how does it ride? I can see he set the placement of his fins off of the two different tail measurements. smart move. What does the Queen of the Coast think of it?

    Wow… that’s really new… no wait…. here’s mine (http://imaginesurfboards.com/eng/rage.html). Ive been working on these shapes for the last 5 years… Kelly took a look at one of mine at the Tressels ASP event in Sept 2008 and was into the idea so I’m stoked to see him working on it. Hes pretty much done the same thing with the fin placement that I did. Cool to see.

    Hello, I’m from Peru and I’m shaper also.
    I do believe that there should be boards so that you can ride lefts (only) and rigths (only). I’m regular foot and when I ride a left I have more strenght that when I ride a right wave. Our body has a different position, therefore there is a different strenght. Is kelly’s board going that way.

    Looks sick. Im really wondering where the wizard sleeve idea is going though. I would love to see some better footage of Kelly on the Sleeve as there isn’t much out there. Kelly said in some interview that he thinks the potential of that design has been hidden due to the poor waves in oz. Is it a dead idea or is he still going with this

    Do you have any test drive of the beast? Do it realy works?
    And ths Chunnel do it realy works our it just only prototyps and you are just thinking creating and talking just to have some feedbacks?
    I think that the problem in Surfboards are the fins…driving you boar only with your back foot take all the fun… i’m thinking that the future on sensation to take from surfboard is like a skate…small and easy to ride! probably using new tipe of rails too perforate whater and controling it all way up to the front foot taking out the fins! like a Catamaran! Using the sides of the boards to and your weight!
    I Just saying… Don’t know if it is possible?!
    I’m happy to see the quest for better performance!
