Without a doubt, the top-tier World Championship Tour surfers go through quite a lot of surfboards, almost an entire quiver for every event. At the moment, they have a two month hiatus between World Tour events– a spring break if you will. Instead of sitting back and relaxing in their favorite recliner, they pack their bags for their favorite remote destinations to finish filming for their next big film or jump on a magazine trip to gather some photos for editorial. These trips, like the World Tour events, require a fresh, cutting edge quiver. These end up coming out a lot more diverse and experimental compared to the standard thruster quiver. It brings back a little extra creativity to their surfing and gives them the ability to draw some new lines and approach waves differently. Here’s Dane’s Spring Break quiver.
Left to right:
- 6′0″ x 18 3/4″ x 2 5/16″ Proton. Ordered slightly wider and shorter to work in both the pocket and smaller, flat faced waves.
- 6′1″ x 18 5/8″ x 2 5/16″ Rookie. Dane’s standard shortboard dimension.
- 6′1″ x 18 1/2″ x 2 5/16″ Proton.
- 5′ 7 1/2″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 5/16″ Dumpster Diver.
- 5′8″ x 18 1/2″ x 2 1/4″ MTF (Merrick Twin Finner). This board boasts larger side fins and a small trailing fin called “finner”.
- 5′ 7 1/2″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 5/16″ “El Mustachio” EPS foam and epoxy glass. When held underneath your nose, this board creates an instant disguise allowing you to blend in with the locals at many different beach breaks and points south of the California border.
