HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Friday, April 30, 2010) – Nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (Cocoa Beach, FL), 38, has taken the ASP World Title ratings lead after an impressive runner-up finish to ASP Dream Tour rookie Jadson Andre (BRA), 20, at the third ASP World Title event of the year, the Billabong Pro Santa Catarina. Slater’s second place finish saw him overtake early season ratings leader Taj Burrow (AUS), 31.

Surfers competing in the first five of the ASP World Title events on the 2010 calendar are out donate top performances in an effort to land within the top 32 on the ratings. After the fifth event of the season, the current 45 man format will be scalped to a 32-man field for the back half of the season.

The early birds reaping the rewards of first light surf checks.

Hello everyone,

Wow what an amazing last week here in Northern Peru! This place is blowing my mind, the setups and potential is just incredible! We have surfed so many different spots, seven different ones so far, I am in complete awe at the variety, and definitely didn´t expect this much diversity on this trip. Even got to surf a beachbreak with draining right corner bowls, so stoked to go right! While the majority of the waves would run down the beach with the current into bowling left speed walls, I was searching out as many against-the-grain corner rights as I could find. So psyched, made around 9 frontside visions, then got a hero left backside for my last wave for an even 10 barrels within about an hour, and that was just the morning session. Back in February, the Quiksilver Pro on the Goldcoast went off. Dane Reynolds put on one of the most memorable contest performances ever, comboing Joel Parkinson at his home break in the quarterfinals. A mix of modern flair, power, and an unthinkable tube ride netted Dane the win. Check out the video below as we take a quick look into the past displaying the future of surfing.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Sunday, April 25, 2010) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour is amidst the third event on the 2010 calendar with the Billabong Pro Santa Catarina, and the opening rounds saw American rookies Patrick Gudauskas (San Clemente, CA), 24, and younger brother Tanner Gudauskas (San Clemente, CA), 21, post solid Round 1 victories while nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (Cocoa Beach, FL), 38, rebounded in Round 2.

Zachary’s Peruvian adventure! If you know Zach or you have met him (maybe even saw this piece on surfline http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/10-questions-zach-keenan–surfline-san-diego_22218/) , you’ll know he is a bit of a hippie, he likes his boards heavy, and he still rides the AME model which is the oldest t-knox model we ever made. He rips really hard and does really good airs. He always brings his own food when he travels without any explanation other than that’s just Zach. When he emailed me from Peru yesterday I asked him if we could post a weekly email from him about his adventures and he was psyched!! Having been to Peru and traveled and surfed with some of the same cats ( Pulpo in particular), I feel  it should be a great read!

Fresh off a win at Bells, Kelly was back on the Goldy in no time at all, and then a quick jaunt over to Shipsterns left him void of the barrel bug and ready to make the trip to Brazil. Though still in possession of his 5′9″ x 18 ⅜” x 2¼” Whip rp that he rode to victory in the Rip Curl event, Kelly ordered a few new ones that he felt would help with the ever changing conditions. Kelly, the reigning champion for this event, surfed an array of boards on his way to the final last year but ended up riding a 6′ 0″ 18 ⅜” x 2 ¼” Tangent rp model in the final.

From left to right:

1. 5′ 10″ x 18 3/8″ x 2 ¼” “Dr Know” is along the same lines as he used last year- same outline and bottom but he has dropped two inches. Wide squash tail and a lightly concaved deck.
2. 5′9″ x 18 ½” x 2 ¼” Flyer - Really similar to a stock Flyer, not much difference except for the slight concave in the deck with a squash tail.
3. 5′9″ x 18 ½” x 2 ¼” Flyer- (nicknamed “El Cafe”) squash tail and concave deck.

The Guys are back on the road, this time the destination is Brazil. The following is a glimpse into what Dane Reynolds may choose to ride throughout the event, depending on conditions.

Left to right:

1. 6′1″ x 18 ⅝” 2 5/16″ Rookie (nicknamed Mississippi), round tail. Dane rode this at both Winki Pop and 13th beach during the bells event.
2. 6′1″ x 18 ⅝” 2 5/16″ Rookie (nicknamed Green Light)
3. 6′0″ x 19″ x 2 5/16″ Rookie outline (nicknamed Chopper)- Dane chose to try shrinking it down and widening it up to suit the flatter waves found in Brazil.
4. 6′0″ x 18 ¾” x 2 5/16″ Proton. This board was also shrunken down a bit and a touch wider. Could be the go to board for fatter waves with the occasional bowly end section.
5. 5′11″ x 19″ x 2 5/16″ Midnight Blue III- EPS Foam glassed with Epoxy. An oldie but goodie. Check out the footage of Dane on this board below.
6. 5′7 ½” x 19½” x 2 ¼” Dumpster Diver- similar to the one we offer stock and the one he rode at the trestles event last year. Its also made from EPS foam and glassed with epoxy.
